Just days after being fired as the head coach at Stanford, Dawkins has been hired as the new head coach at Central Florida according to reports by Terrance Harris of the Associated Press. The school had announced Dawkins’ hire Wednesday.

Dawkins replaces Donnie Jones, who was sacked on March 10, on the heel of a first-round exit from the American Athletic Conference Tournament.
“I’m not sure there is a better person in basketball with a better character reputation than Johnny Dawkins”, White said during the news conference. He also won two NIT Championships with the Cardinal. He played for the Blue Devils from 1982-86.
He inherits a rebuilding situation at UCF.

UCF went 12-18 last season under Jones, and the program struggled after moving to the AAC in 2013, going just 37-54 in three seasons.
