Central Iowa gets playoff at Little League Softball World Series after filing

Going into the pool play game against North Carolina, Snohomish was unbeaten (3-0). Central Iowa officials said Snohomish purposely tried not to score in an effort to keep the Iowa team from advancing.

South Snohomish suffered an 8-0 no-hit defeat against Salisbury, N.C., on Monday. Because with North Carolina’s win, it would advance over a team from Central Iowa that actually gave the team from Washington a run for it’s money.

Chris Chadd, president of Central Iowa Little League, told The Des Moines Register he thinks Snohomish lost the game on purpose to avoid a rematch with Iowa. “It’s not the girls’ fault, it’s the coaches… they should be disqualified”.

“It was very evident when they did the starting lineups that their four best players were on the bench and they were going to be the reserves”, Central head coach Charlie Husak told WHO. “So the Iowans appealed to the governing body, Little League international”.

Little League international officials had to intervene after allegations arose that a team threw one of its games at the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Ore. on Monday. Priester, a redshirt freshman, had four receptions for 67 yards in the fall scrimmage Sunday.

The West SAT THEIR STARTERS and BUNTED THE ENTIRE GAME to secure a loss so that another competitive team, the Central Iowa All-Stars, would be eliminated. But Iowa felt like Snohomish wanted them knocked out of the tournament, which is why it came up with a plan to throw its game against North Carolina.

“The Little League international Tournament Committee recently received credible reports that some teams did not play with the effort and spirit appropriate for any Little League game”, Little League international said in a statement Tuesday.

Chadd said Washington’s players did not attempt to do anything beyond bunting. The winner moves on to the semi-finals.

“It’s a cop-out”, Chadd said.
