CES 2016: Hands On With The Razer Blade Stealth And External GPU
It’s essentially an external graphics card enclosure, using a thunderbolt 3 connection to allow you to hook the Razer Blade Stealth up to a more powerful GPU.

Razer’s made a name for itself producing some astonishingly thin gaming laptops and now it’s venturing into the world of Ultrabooks with the Blade Stealth. There’s a 12.5-inch screen, an Intel Core i7-6500U dual-core processor (that goes up to 3.1GHz), a minimum of 12GB SSD storage (goes up to 512GB depending on the model you choose), a 1440p or 4K display, and 8GB of DDR3 RAM.
Razer’s meteoric rise from being a PC peripheral maker to also being one of the most envied laptop makers in the world has been nothing short of insane.
The machine measures in at just 0.52 in (13.2 mm) thick and weighs 2.75 lb (1.25 kg). There are two USB 3.0 ports, one type-c connector with Thunderbolt support; it is this port that connects to the external GPU.
Check out our chat with Razer’s Kevin Sather as he runs us through the what, why, and how of Razer’s new ultrabook gaming machine. The Razer Core is then connected to your Razer Blade Stealth laptop, which is also powered by this same USB-C cord (that’s also Thunderbolt 3). Keep in mind that it’s only for the USA at the moment via Microsoft Stores and Razer’s own website. It will start shipping from January 29. But when you get back home, you simply connect it to its Core and get on with your PC gaming session. Prices range from US$999 up to $1,599 depending on specifications, though that figure doesn’t include the Razer Core, or the graphics card you’ll need to plug into it. The accessory is set to ship in the first half of 2016, for an as-of-yet undisclosed price. The device can accommodate virtually every popular desktop graphics card from both AMD® and NVIDIA®. More than that, this laptop-PC provides gamers with wide-viewing angles, thanks to its 12.5-inch screen with QuadHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440). It’s also the only laptop out there with individually backlit keys with full RGB colour gamut support-as a gamer, you can really customize the colours and effects on the Blade Stealth’s keyboard.
