After years of waiting, Oculus Rift is now available to pre-order.

Oculus Rift’s virtual reality headset will go on sale in March, bringing high-end virtual reality to mainstream consumers for the first time.

Because of the high system requirements for the Rift, the company is not only certifying “Oculus Ready” PCs but working with vendors to offer computer bundles that include the headset.

Preorders for the Oculus Rift started today, and with it comes our first glimpse at what it will cost to own the face-mounted virtual reality display.

And finally, what kind of rig will I need for an Oculus Rift setup?

Oculus founder Palmer Luckey has apologised for “handing the messaging poorly” with regards to pricing of the new Rift. The headsets will cost a whopping $600, which is quite a bit more than Oculus VR’s initial promises (originally they said Oculus Rift would be in the $300-400 range). All pre-orders include the headset, sensor, Oculus Remote, cables, Xbox One Controller, and the VR games EVE: Valkyrie, and Lucky’s Tale. That’s in line with the price range for a headset and PC that Oculus executives had floated past year.

Backers will also get the two free games. In 2014, Facebook bought the company for $2 billion.

It’s assumed that PlayStation VR will be at least somewhat cheaper, but Sony have previously warned that it will still be around the price of a new console.

Oculus says that users can expect dozens of full-length AAA titles to become available through 2015, including Minecraft, Rockband VR and Crysis developer Crytek’s The Climb.
