With the 2016 MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday, both Syndergaard and Cespedes have been replaced.

They then lost to the Washington Nationals 3-1 at Citi Field.

Strasburg (12-0) struck out nine and became the first NL starter in 104 years to win his first 12 decisions in a season.

Collins became concerned after Syndergaard threw two fastballs that were in the 91-mph range, about 7 miles per hour slower than he threw earlier in the inning. As you guys know, I’m a little exhausted of talking about it.

Murphy tops the majors with a.348 batting average at the All-Star break, boosted by the damage he’s done to the Mets. “And so we’ll just have to suck it up and come in tomorrow and get ready to play with the bodies we have available”.

Strasburg will keep company with his fellow All-Stars in San Diego, where he will partake in the festivities despite not pitching.

Logan Verrett (3-6) gave up five runs in 6 2/3 innings. Facing potential disaster after walking Brandon Nimmo with two outs on a questionable ball four call, Strasburg was now engaged in a full-on battle with Rene Rivera, his pitch count surpassing 100, his gray jersey soaked through with sweat, his entire start now coming down to this final batter. Syndergaard dominated the Cubs in his last outing, allowing a run over seven innings in a 14-3 victory.

Shawn Kelley gave up two hits to start the eighth, but Oliver Perez and Blake Treinen wriggled out of the jam before Jonathan Papelbon (18th save) threw a flawless ninth inning.

Jonathan Papelbon pitched a flawless ninth for his 18th save, helping Washington extend its NL East lead to four games over the Mets after dropping the opener of the four-game series Thursday night.

Jayson Werth singled to center and scored on a double to center by Daniel Murphy in the Nationals’ half of the third, with Murphy’s 24th two-base hit of the season making it 3-0 over Syndergaard and the Mets. First baseman C.J. Cron – who has 11 homers and 50 RBIs – fractured a bone in his left hand when hit by a pitch. “I tried my best to try and stay and finish that inning but Terry (Collins) had other plans for me”.

“Instead of going out and trying to force themselves through a situation, we’re now – as we all know, the majority of injuries are caused by fatigue and the muscle are getting exhausted, and when that happens they need to be able to come over and say ‘Skip, I’m done”. So it was kind of just a weird pitch. “The world needs to see him”, Collins rationalized.

Said Collins: “I said “I don’t like the looks of this.’ And (Syndergaard) just said ‘I lost it” and he just said his arm is exhausted. We have to step up and take charge”.

Mets’ right-hander Noah Syndergaard took the mound (7-1) in his last 11 games, ten starts, with the only loss over that stretch to the Nats, who knocked him out after three in D.C. with seven hits and five runs, all earned in what ended up an 11-4 win for Washington.

“It’s disappointing, but hopefully there will be a lot more”, Syndergaard concluded.

“There’s not pain regarding the bone spur”.

“It all boils down to a little shoulder fatigue, ” Syndergaard said.

Noah Syndergaard left the game with “arm fatigue – not elbow related”, the Mets say.

The start was delayed 37 minutes by rain.

Nationals: 1B Ryan Zimmerman was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left rib cage strain.
