CFP Week 10 Revealed 11/10

Despite having one loss on the year, Alabama’s recent victory over LSU was so convincing, the committee had no choice but to move the team to the No. 2 spot in the latest College Football Playoff Rankings.

With its convincing win over LSU on Saturday, Alabama moved up to No. 2 in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings.

Iowa was ranked fifth, followed by Baylor, Stanford, Oklahoma State, LSU and Utah. Here’s how things shook out with the second iteration of this year’s CFP rankings. Ohio State; 4. Notre Dame; 5. The Crimson Tide (8-1) suffered a September loss to Ole Miss and Notre Dame has overcome numerous season-ending injuries with its only loss to top-ranked Clemson.

If you read our upset alert article last week you wouldn’t have been surprised to see the Oklahoma State Cowboys take down the previously undefeated TCU Horned Frogs in dominating fashion. The Committee said last week they couldn’t really judge the Big 12 accurately yet because none of the powers in the conference had played anyone of note to date. Fortunately for the Bears, with a meeting with the Oklahoma Sooners on the horizon, their schedule is about to get a bit tough.

Oklahoma State entered the conversation by throttling TCU on Saturday. 20-22, respectively. All three teams have one loss. The Cardinal moved up four spots after taking down Colorado 42-10 this past weekend. That’s because the Midshipmen’s regular season doesn’t end until the Army game on December 12. Remember Notre Dame has been playing without eight key players all lost to season-ending injuries, including their starting quarterback and running back.

“Oklahoma State had a good win, that’ the first piece of real strength that we’ve seen from them”, Long said during a teleconference after the rankings were announced. That’s why the idea that the Irish are in with three more wins seems flawed.

But anyone still in legitimate contention for the playoffs that goes unbeaten the rest of the way will certainly have a resume.

North Carolina: Miami at home, at N.C. State, ACC title game against Clemson. Temple meanwhile stayed at #22 after their 60-40 win over SMU.

The second College Football Playoff ranking is out, and already we’ve had a shakeup at the top. But all of that still might not be enough to get by a Notre Dame team that wins out (which would include an impressive road game at Stanford to close this month).

Nevertheles, the rankings are out and it means we have another week to chew on what the committee has decided upon.

They will be released each Tuesday night through December 1 at 7 p.m. each night except for November 17 when they will come out at 9:30 p.m.

Because if for a few reason the Irish don’t make the CFP, it’s likely because of what someone like Baylor or Oklahoma State just might do between now and December 6th.
