The victims were shot as they fled from the village, Ngamdu, according to a local police official.

Suspected Boko Haram militants on Thursday slit the throats of five civilians at a building site in the southern Niger village of Dagaya, close to the border with Nigeria, military sources said on Friday.

Police director-general Taher Erda said the bomber detonated his explosives belt when he was stopped at the entrance to the market for security checks. “Some serious observers suspect that some of the girls are the female suicide bombers that have become common over the past year”.

Two policemen were among those killed in the third attack in the country’s capital in less than a month. “We are hearing that some lawyers were told they were being arrested on suspicion of picking quarrels”, Amnesty’s William Nee said.

“It was averted because the bomb was detected by the church’s security personnel”.

“Specifically, we don’t allow private or any unusual vehicle or Keke Napep (tricycle) to get into the motor park and even known faces are always thoroughly screened”.

The attack follows three others on the continent in the past 24 hours.

Our correspondents report that most of the roadblocks along Maiduguri-Damaturu Road have been dismantled, making the road vulnerable to attacks.

Meanwhile, in Nigeria, Chad’s southwestern neighbor, Takfiri militant on Friday night launched an attack on the village of Ngamdu, some 100 kilometers (63 miles) from Maiduguri, killing 11 people.
