Chad forces kill six militants, lose five officers in raid

Five police officers were among the 11 dead, said Chad’s Minister of Public Security, Abderahim Bireme Hamid. In this attack five officers and six militants had lost their lives as said by the police and government officials.

A Reuters witness outside the house in N’Djamena’s eastern neighbourhood of Diguel saw Red Cross workers load at least four white body bags onto a truck. The authorities seized a large number of home-made explosives and eight mortars, he said.

One of Boko Haram’s strategic leader, Fanay alias Mahamat Moustapha, Baana Fanay, has been arrested in Chad republic.

The prosecutor said the a search in the suspect’s house led to the seizure of different weapons and documents written in Arabic by Boko Haram leader, Aboubakar Shekau, targeting the sect’s recruits.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack but suspicion fell on Boko Haram, the Islamic militant group based in neighbouring Nigeria that has already attacked Chadian villages along the lake dividing the two countries.

Chad has played a leading role in helping Nigerian forces win back territory from Boko Haram, which has mounted a six-year insurgency to carve out an Islamist caliphate in Nigeria’s northeast and attacked neighbours Niger and Cameroon.

Before the raid, Chad’s chief prosecutor announced, “the dismantling of a Boko Haram cell and the arrest of 60 people” as part of an inquiry into the suicide bombings.

According to the reporters, on Monday, during the police raid which took place in Chad’s capital, the suspected Boko Haram fighters had blown themselves up.
