Chad says 4 Boko Haram bombers attacked Koulfoua

The bombers struck three different parts of the busy weekly market in Loulou Fou, which is on an island in Lake Chad near the border with Nigeria.

Gen. Banyaman Cossingar, Chad gendarmerie director general, confirmed the attack, saying Nigeria’s Islamic extremist group Boko Haram is suspected.

The Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Abayomi Olanisakin, has urged Nigerians to be “”security conscious and report issues”” that have security implications to security agencies, so that the December, 2015 deadline on Boko Haram insurgency in the North East sub-region of the country could be met.

At least 30 people were killed and 80 injured in a triple suicide bombing attack on a market day.

Abuja: Nigeria’s secret police on Saturday said they had arrested a dozen suspects linked to the discovery of “sleeper cells” operated by Boko Haram Islamists in and around the capital Abuja. Yesterday’s Lake Chad attacks have been speculated to be in retaliation for the coalition’s successful blow against the terror group.

“Evacuations will have to be done by the army with the assistance of non-governmental organisations and the United Nations to local healthcare centres like Bol”, said Florent Mehaule, head of the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Chad.

Troops from Cameroon, Nigeria, Chad and Benin had last week launched operations in the Lake Chad region and the Sambisa Forest, arresting 100 militants, killing 100 others and freeing 900 hostages, according to Cameroon’s government.

It was recently reported that Boko Haram and Daesh together were responsible for roughly half of all terror deaths in 2014.

Boko Haram was said to have been founded in Nigeria in 2002 and to have become radicalized in 2009.
