American singer Chaka Khan has entered a drug therapy program to fight addictions to a drug that claimed the life of singer Prince in April.

Chaka Khan has announced that she is entering an “intensive rehabilitation and aftercare program” to deal with her addiction to combat an addiction to fentanyl.

Prince was a longtime friend of Khan’s, and she said his death has inspired her and her sister to seek treatment.

Chaka Khan was scheduled to perform at the Stanislaus County Fair in California on July 13 but her performance has been cancelled.

“Unfortunately, I will miss concert appearances over the summer”, said Khan in a statement.

“As part of the ongoing outpatient treatment the doctors have urged her to resume recording mid-July and commence all performances beginning August 1 and onward”, the representative added.

Khan and her sister, Yvonne Stevens – who goes by the stage name Taka Boom – have both entered rehab, saying that they “agreed we would take this journey together and support each other through the recovery”. She also competed on Season 21 of Dancing with the Stars.

Stanislaus County Fair spokeswoman Adrenna Alkhas said Jody Watley and Shalamar will replace Khan. “My sister and I would like to thank everyone for their support, love and prayers”. She is a lovely young lady and I pray for her well-being.

One of Chaka’s most successful singles was “I Feel for You”, which was originally written and performed by Prince. At the time, she wrote on her website, “The battle of addiction is a serious and long process, which is why I chose to address my use of prescription medications – which came about as a result of the knee surgery I had a few years ago”.
