Jeremy Johnson started the first three games of the season before being benched for redshirt freshman Sean White for the last two games. They’ll play a rare Thursday night game, at Kentucky, this week.

Just as Kentucky’s defense needs to step up to the challenge of stopping Auburn’s rushing attack, the Wildcat offense needs to exploit one of the Auburn defense’s significant weaknesses. Many feel we have abandoned the run too soon.

The good news is that Cory Johnson has been playing fantastic football lately.

Muschamp and Malzahn had better hope Auburn got things fixed last week, because the game vs. Kentucky is an enormous game for this season’s Tigers, the development of younger players who need bowl practices and the confidence of a team that has been absent of the characteristic all season long.

When the defense has struggled, Auburn linebacker Justin Garrett said players aren’t maintaining the attention to detail Muschamp has emphasized since joining the team back in December. I think it has been very healthy for our whole team. This off-week we wanted to see how these guys would respond to competition – not just that position, but other positions as well. “Every year it starts with a mentality of them being physical and their backs are good runners”. I don’t think it is, so the Wildcats are going to have to do a few major work to exploit a major weakness.

“Thursday night games away are challenging, there’s no doubt, because of the crowd and everything that goes with that”. “Rhythm and tempo were a big factor in our off-week”. That’s been probably the biggest issue that we’ve had, as far as getting into rhythm, as far as putting points on the board.

“We’ve got that plan during the off week, personnel-wise and everything that goes with that”. Chubb left last week’s game with a knee injury.

“I can’t remember the day you asked me but I’ve always been forthright with that”. Deon Mix has also played a lot of center.

Auburn limps in at 3-2, desperate for an SEC win to get this season back on the rails. He’s very athletic. We have a lot of different options.

“It’s definitely a big game; I talked to our team about this this week”. Our guys understand that we are playing a good team, a team that’s played three SEC games and won two of them. “I think both of them have improved and that’s what we’re looking for. When you’re able to generate more negative plays, which means winning one-on-one in the pass rush or creating a tackle for a loss in a run-game situations to get people behind the sticks more”.
