Champions League: Bale on Man City struggles

The claims came after Bayern crashed out of the Champions League semi-finals at the hands of Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

An incredible rearguard action from a Bayern Munich onslaught saw Atletico hold out for a 2-1 defeat against the German giants on Tuesday to progress on away goals after edging the first leg 1-0 last week.

Bale’s deflected strike gave Real a 1-0 win over City to send them into the final against local rivals Atletico Madrid on May 28 in Milan.

“I really have to say we played against the best team I have faced in my whole career, it was unbelievable how they played”, said Simeone.

Atletico, who are also level on points with La Liga leaders Barcelona, have become known for their well-organised, counter-attacking style. We can be proud and happy. We had a lot of experience of being in the semi-finals and we did a very professional job.

“I don’t think Real Madrid demonstrated tonight that they are a better team than Manchester City”. I think we deserve to be in the Champions League next year, as in the whole year we have been in a Champions League spot from the beginning to the end.

“We have the chance to create history and the opponent is irrelevant. Bayern have awesome players up front and it was impossible to keep a clean sheet”, Oblak said.

Simeone told Radio La Red: “The final against Real Madrid is 50-50, we both know each other well”.

“We got past PSV, Barcelona and Bayern”.

“He scored a lot of important goals in finals, like in the World Cup and the Champions League”. “Of course if you are not in the first four positions of the Premier League and you win the Champions League, the FA Cup and the Capital One – that’s a very good season!” “We failed to get the goals at the right time”.

Pep Guardiola is closing in on three straight Bundesliga titles at Bayern Munich, but has not won the Champions League.

Guardiola, in his final Champions League home game at Bayern before his move to Manchester City for next season, started with defender Jerome Boateng, back from a three-month injury break on Saturday, and Franck Ribery, himself back from injury. “We turned up to win the game like we do every game but that is gone now”.
