“I think the message I would say to China is, carry on with the reform, carry on with the change you’re making”.

Osborne said the funding would strengthen the Chinese profile of British culture, which he described as “a key element of our global economic and political influence”.

He said the government will improve management of the market and promote openness, transparency, long-term stability and healthy development.

He is expected to announce cultural exchanges and exhibits, along with new investment projects and financial deals. “So the growth in the Chinese economy will be more than the entire British economy at least in the coming five years”.

“China-UK co-operation is now standing at a new starting point”, said Mr Massachusetts .

In 2012, Cameron had a talk with the Dalai Lama, Tibet’s spiritual leader in exile, and this prompted China to halt top government meetings with Britain. The UK’s eagerness to develop commercial ties with China, especially in an arena as sensitive as nuclear power, will no doubt receive sidelong glances from the USA and other western allies.

The Strike Price for Hinkley Point C is £89.50/MWh fully indexed to the Consumer Price Index. The ever increasing costs of this project could leave Britain’s bill payers paying over the odds for decades because ministers have negotiated such a bad deal.

And London and Beijing are to discuss the establishment of a China-UK Infrastructure Alliance to boost co-operation on major projects in the two countries and in third markets – including areas covered by China’s proposed “New Silk Road” to link Beijing with Europe.
