Chancellor would lose $267647 a week for an in-season holdout

Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor has already kept himself out for all of Seattle’s training camp thus far as he seeks an upgrade on his current deal.

In a tweet from ESPN’s Josina Anderson, Chancellor’s agent, Alvin Keels, was reported as saying: “Nothing has changed”. The new Seahawks rumors indicate that Chancellor will not report to the team until he gets a new contract.

Considering Chancellor’s impact play from the strong safety position for Seattle over the past few seasons, there’s nearly no chance this will end up in anything other than him again donning a Seahawks uniform and laying the wood to NFC West receivers. He is not guaranteed any money after 2015 and is scheduled to make a base salary of $4.55 million. Additionally, Chancellor’s holdout has reached the point at which Seattle could recoup 25 percent of his $1 million signing-bonus proration for 2015, which amounts to $250,000. Keels also told Anderson, “The team and I have been in contact, but haven’t been able to agree on a compromise”. This is part of a four-year, $28 million contract that he signed ahead of the 2013 NFL season. Having a member of the “Legion of Boom” continues to hold out derails a lot of that momentum. Unlike Chancellor, he made a decision to show up at camp.

It’s possible that this latest bit of information from Kam Chancellor’s agent is a bluff, but the Seahawks might need to address the situation quickly.

Things aren’t looking great for Kam Chancellor. Of course, as we’ve said all along, the Seahawks may fear setting a precedent with Kam more than the thought of playing without him or forcing him to become disgruntled.
