Chandy makes history, hopes to win polls
The BJP itself won seven seats in the Lok Sabha elections, while the AGP, which had formed first non-Congress government in the state, has a strong network of activists in different parts of the Assam and talks about “Ahomia asmita”. Assam is critical to BJP’s hopes and the election result there will have a direct bearing on party president Amit Shah’s standing as electoral manager.

The state poll results has bigger ramification as the heavy losses suffered by Congress will reduce its influence in Rajya Sabha, which in turn could help in the passage of crucial legislation like GST and Land Acquisition Bills.
The Left Democratic Front was ahead in 88 of the 140 seats while the ruling UDF was behind at 50.
According to the exit polls, BJP will form its first government in the northeastern state of Assam defeating the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress that has been in the forefront since the last 15 years.
The exit polls were divided over Tamil Nadu.
According to ABP-Nielsen, the Trinamool would win 163 of the 294 assembly seats. As per the trends made available after counting of votes began in the state this morning, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and allies are leading in as amany as 66 seats. The NewsX-Today’s Chanakya Exit Poll data on West Bengal Assembly elections suggests 210 (+/ – 14) seats for Trinamool.
Congress leaders are not anxious about the exit polls, pointing to the elections in Delhi and Bihar where the pollsters went totally off the mark.
One opinion poll, Times Now-CVoter, projects AIADMK to win 130 seats – an absolute majority in the state assembly. BJP fought the elections to the 126-member Assam Assembly along with AGP and Bodoland People’s Front.
Modi called the Assam victory an “exceptional win” on Twitter and congratulated his party leaders.
Congress dissident leader and now BJP leader Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is leading by 9458 votes over Niren Deka of Congress at Jalukbari.
The India Today-My Axis-India polls survey gave DMK and allies 124 to 140 seats and AIADMK 89 to 101, while “others” 4 to 11.
Last time, the LDF had lost by less than 2%, reflecting the trend of wafer-thin margins, which made predictions hard. The Left Front continues to be in decline in the state because it hoisted its campaign on some primetime Mamata bashing, not to mention the disastrous alliance with the Congress – which some analysts are calling another “historic blunder”. Now when her image has taken a hit and the arithmetic changed drastically with Congress-Left alliance, some exit polls show Trinamul winning 220 to 250 seats!
In Tamil Nadu, the counting of votes is being held at 68 centres across the state in the elections to the 234-member assembly.

The BJP could get zero to three seats while one to four seats may go to others, it said.
