Channing Tatum Signs His Gambit Deal!
Channing Tatum is still playing “Gambit” after all!

While there’s no definite word why the actor considers such move, it pegs to have some effect on the film’s future. As told by TheWrap, insiders reportedly suggested that director Rupert Wyatt will soon be in search of a new leading man.
The previous report of Tatum’s possible departure came as a shock, given how heavily invested the actor has been in the character – Tatum is a self-professed, longtime fan of Gambit, and is producing the film himself alongside partner Reid Carolin.
In an interview last year, Tatum discussed how he planned to portray the character on the big screen: “Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking guy”. Another is that Tatum and Fox’s expectations for “Gambit” may have drifted too far apart, hence the rumored split.
Fox has had a recent history of allowing previously unthinkable movies go through production. The movie is set to debut on February 12, 2016.
Meanwhile, Fox and Tatum has yet to confirm or deny the rumors.
But with regards to how Gambit fits into the X-Men universe, the trade reports the studio sees the kinetically charged mutant as becoming a new anchor in the X-Men film franchise, not unlike Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in almost all of the X-Men movies, except First Class where he only had a cameo. He, most recently, was one of the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse as Death.
It’s worth noting that the report regarding Tatum’s potential departure from the film cites an unidentified “individual with knowledge of the situation”, so it should be taken with a grain a salt until something more official is known.
“Gambit” is slated for an October 2016 release.

According to TheWrap, “Gambit” has been a passion project for the actor and he did indeed hype up the film during the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con.
