Channing Tatum will play a mermaid in the new ‘Splash’ remake

Channing Tatum and Jillian Bell have previously worked together on “22 Jump Street”… but Bell has also appeared in the likes of “Bridesmaids”, “Goosebumps” and even an episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm”.

“Disney is moving forward on a remake of the 1984 film Splash with an interesting twist: Channing Tatum will star as the mermaid character that was played by Daryl Hannah”. Tatum will pay Hannah’s role, while actress Jillian Bell (Workaholics) will play Hanks’s. It also led to Howard and Grazer forming Imagine Entertainment production company.

The original Splash, which was directed by Ron Howard and released in 1984, centered on Allen Bauer, a young man who was miraculously saved by a mermaid when he was a young boy.

Channing Tatum, having starred in the Coen brothers’ Hail Caesar! in February, will be seen in Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky and Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle in 2017. Howard and Grazer are returning as producers alongside Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan and Tatum himself. It grossed almost $70 million at the ’84 box office, and co-starred John Candy and Eugene Levy. It featured Hanks at his comedic best, as well as his most romantic, in my opinion.

The ink on the deals is still wet, according to Deadline, as Walt Disney head of production Sean Bailey finished the deals on Friday evening. The movie is still very early in development, so it may be a minute before we hear any more details, but be sure to stay tuned for more updates. You’re trying to get laughs, but your job is not to get laughs.
