Charged In Connection With Child Found Dead In Englewood Fire

Three people were charged in the concealment of a 4-year-old boy’s death on Chicago’s South Side. When she realized her child wasn’t breathing, she washed his body, wrapped him in a towel, put him in the trunk of her vehicle, and sprayed air freshener.

Prosecutors also said in bond court Thursday that Garcia had been previously charged with endangerment of a child, after authorities found a 5-year-old boy was knocking on a door, looking for his mother. She was away, apparently visiting a boyfriend, authorities said. In 2012, she was sentenced to 18 months supervision for endangering the life of a child.

All three were taken into custody Tuesday night after being caught trying to flee the scene of an abandoned house in Englewood as crews responded to reports of a fire.

His manner and cause of death were still under investigation following an autopsy, according to the medical examiner’s office.

According to a spokesperson with the Department of Children and Family Services, allegations of abuse and neglect are being investigated.

Alyssa Garcia, 27, Christian Camerena, 19, and Isaac Camarena, 17, all of Marquette Park, each face one felony count of concealing a death of a person and one felony count of attempted residential arson, police said Thursday.

CHICAGO (AP) – A 4-year-old boy whose malnourished, partially burned remains were found by Chicago firefighters had been kept in a back room of his family’s home that reeked of feces and urine, prosecutors said Thursday.

Agency spokeswoman Veronica Resa said Garcia’s week-old twins are hospitalized for monitoring. Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said it appeared the child had been deceased for some time. They smelled lighter fluid in a gangway that led to the abandoned building, the Fire Department said.
