This is undoubtedly good news for Chargers fans hoping the team stays in San Diego, but the city of Los Angeles will continue to be a specter looming over the franchise for another season. A deal between the Chargers and Rams could be reached by week’s end, though that does not automatically mean the Chargers will move without giving San Diego another try. The Chargers’ statement this evening implies that the default situation is, if nothing changes, then the Chargers will indeed move to Los Angeles in 2017. “The more San Diego has done the less engaged the Chargers have become”.

While the franchise says it’s still weighing its options, Agee reports that “the Chargers and Rams are close to finalizing a deal to share a stadium in Inglewood”.

The NFL in the January 12 agreement committed to $100 million grants to both the Chargers and Raiders for new stadium projects in their current markets in addition to $200 million loans from the league’s G-4 stadium fund.

“The deal will be good-to-great for the Chargers – if and when they choose to relocate”, one league source said Thursday morning.

He’ll be moving the team to LA when the Inglewood site is ready.

On Thursday, the Chargers announced that they had acquired land in Santa Ana that would potentially be used for a team headquarters and practice facility.

The NFL’s relocation team is in Los Angeles this week attending to this and other matters with the Rams. If he wants to move to Los Angeles for the 2016 season, the deadline to do so is March 23. “I have pledge the league’s full support in helping Dean to fulfill his goal”. “We have a fair plan in San Diego….”
