Chargers at Chiefs: Game preview, odds, prediction

Charles missed much of last season after tearing his ACL in a Week 5 game against the Chicago Bears. The defense carried that team at times, but the return of dynamic running back Jamaal Charles from last year’s knee injury to join a solid receiving corps has Kansas City thinking about being more rounded this year. The team got started off slowly last season and are looking to avoid that this year and pick up where they left off a season ago. Chiefs have won four straight in series.

“I wish I could put them all out on the field”, Chiefs running backs coach Eric Bieniemy said with a smile. If everything works out for him. and he’s ready to go and he’s the same guy before the injury, Jamaal Charles will get the majority of the work. The team’s biggest signing would be offensive lineman Mitchell Schwartz, however, the offensive line still remains the Chiefs’ biggest weakness heading into this season. The over/under total for the game is listed at 44.5 points.

Kansas City was simply dominant in the second half last season, winning its final 10 regular-season contests, and is an impressive 7-1 in its past eight games against AFC West rivals.

Since a year ago, the team hasn’t made very many changes, which is a great sign for this season outside of the three big injuries from Mauga, Charles, and Houston.

The Chiefs begin the year off at home and look to make the Arrowhead faithful proud. I don’t suspect San Diego will have all their running issues solved, which means this should be a classic KC game. I have to concur with the common thinking on this week’s game as I think the Chiefs should win this game pretty handily. However, the Saints have had historically some of the worst defense over the past few seasons, and the Chiefs will look to exploit this. San Diego has lost last two road openers.
