San Diego Chargers veteran wideout Stevie Johnson will miss the entire 2016 season after undergoing surgery on Tuesday to fix a torn meniscus in his right knee.

NFL.com reported that the procedure was a success but the rehab will be longer than first anticipated.

Johnson injured his right knee during the second practice of training camp while getting up to run downfield after making a diving catch.

Signed last year to a three-year, $10.5 million deal, Johnson is scheduled to make $2.9 million in total, non-guaranteed compensation in 2016.

Johnson was limited to just ten games previous year because of a groin injury.

The Chargers signed James Jones following Johnson’s injury, giving them options at wide receiver. However, while Johnson was previously diagnosed with a torn meniscus, he has now officially been ruled out for the entire 2016-2017 season.

While formerly serving as a dynamic play-maker out wide, Johnson has registered just nine touchdown receptions over the course of the last three seasons combined.

With Johnson out, the Chargers could look to use Allen as an inside receiver more often, along with Williams and Dontrelle Inman.
