Chargers Rookie Likely Out With Injury
The San Diego Chargers traded up to select running back Melvin Gordon in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft, hoping to find an additional weapon for quarterback Philip Rivers.

Gordon, their potential franchise running back, sat out practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury, returned Thursday and took part in the team’s light morning workout.
Gordon is fully expected to get the lion’s share of the carries at tailback.
The season opener isn’t until Sept 13.
Even on the first day of Chargers Training Camp, Perryman made a play that got a lot of recognition.
“I just want to go out there and be sharp”, Gordon said. “He still hasn’t had one carry in a regular season game”.
It wouldn’t make sense to risk Gordon further injuring himself for meaningless preseason games since the coaching staff knows what he brings to the table.
The Chargers need to trust their detailed scouting on Gordon, that led them to spend three picks on him last spring. Work him hard in practice.

Needless to say, with that mentality and of course full health, Gordon should be able to light up the Chargers’ offense and finally give them a reliable presence at the position.
