Chargers, with trouble at every turn, await Chiefs

The Chiefs had an opportunity to go up by 11 points in the third quarter, but tight end Travis Kelce was called for offensive pass interference on a 63-yard touchdown pass to West.

The Chargers also placed defensive lineman (foot) and cornerback (knee) on season-ending injured reserve Saturday. His incredible instincts for the ball have him among the league leaders in passes defended (18), interceptions (5) and interception yards (141). But there’s no guarantee they’ll have better conditions for next week’s game against the Ravens in Baltimore or beyond. With their last playoff win taking place in the 1992 season, the Chiefs need the easiest road possible.

The key play in that game was an interception return for a touchdown by linebacker Justin Houston, but he will be out for the second game in a row Sunday. The Chargers snapped their six-game skid two weeks ago against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but were bottled up against the division-leading Denver Broncos this past Sunday, losing 17-3.

Johnson exited Sunday’s game early with a groin injury, which may have a lasting effect.

A late rally in the final quarter saw Minnesota nearly come back to take the game into overtime, and with just seconds to go they had moved into a ideal field goal position, which would have leveled the scores.

The Chiefs are projected to easily win this match against the hapless Chargers.

Renner becomes the team’s backup quarterback if starter Matt Schaub is unable to play Sunday against the visiting Seattle Seahawks. You really are, a little bit, pressing delete.

The Chiefs offense will once again be without wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas (concussion) this week.

He tackled Rivers before he was able to scramble to the first down marker.

If it’s the mark of a good team that it can win without playing well, the Kansas City Chiefs indeed have something good going.

Defensive tackle Sean Lissemore (shoulder) is listed as doubtful.

ABOUT THE CHIEFS (7-5): Kansas City’s rebound is especially unexpected given that it coincided with star running back Jamaal Charles’ season-ending injury, but Charcandrick West has proven capable of carrying the load in the backfield.

The Chiefs will look to prevent that from happening and win their astounding seventh contest in a row.
