Charges Against Alabama’s Cam Robinson and Hootie Jones Dropped

Jones cited insufficient evidence in proving who was in possession of the gun and the drugs, thus, he is dropping the charges. Robinson, a two-year starter who is entering his junior season, has been booked Tuesday with misdemeanor carrying of a weapon in the presence of narcotics and felony possession of stolen firearms.

The district attorney in Monroe, La., decided not to pursue prosecution of Cam Robinson and Hootie Jones, AL.com confirmed. According to the arrest affidavit, the arrested officer, Sgt. Tommy Crowson, approached a vehicle after detecting a strong odor of marijuana and found Jones sitting in the passenger seat with a handgun in his lap.

Alabama football coach Nick Saban said through a university spokesperson that he had no additional comment on the status of Robinson and Jones and that he will handle the matter internally. Robinson, an offensive tackle, was a first-team all-SEC choice as a sophomore in 2015 and is considered one of the best offensive linemen in college football.

“We do a lot of things internally with our players, which we have implemented with Cam, to try to change behavior in a positive way if we feel there’s issues”, Saban said.

Alabama opens their season against USC, but could Robinson and/or Jones be suspended for the game against the Trojans? Robinson is also considered a potential first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, so the situation was being watched closely from plenty of angles. Both players are natives of Monroe, but played at different high schools.
