Charles Barkley critical of Kevin Durant’s decision

The Golden State Warriors’ signing of Kevin Durant was a total team effort. Many are understanding. Many more are critical. Coming off a historic 73-9 season, Golden State will now have another star apart from reigning MVP Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

“I think it’s great”. You can use any word you want to. And let’s be realistic. You go to GSW, the team who beat you, when you’re already on a title contender? He’ll get used to Golden State Kevin Durant. He’s a great player and he’s a great guy. Additionally, it is not out of the question that if Durant wins a few championships in Golden State he will return back to Oklahoma City in hopes of bringing them a title just like Lebron did with Cleveland. He said Durant is joining “a gravy train in a terrific Warriors team” and added he was disappointed from a competitive standpoint. Everybody wants to win. I will forever cherish the relationships within the organization – the friends and teammates that I went to war with on the court for nine years, and all the fans and people of the community. It was real. It was feelings I couldn’t ignore. Remember that Westbrook could become the top unrestricted free agent next year, much like Durant also this year. “It’s amusing seeing guys think about more than just basketball for once”. Like, ‘I don’t care. I didn’t win it. I’ve got to take some responsibility for that. “I went out of my comfort zone”.

In August of 1996, Barkley was traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets.

The Warriors are expected to sign Durant to a two-year, $54.3 million deal when players can sign contracts on July 7th. Most notably, the speculation that Durant simply needed a change of scenery certainly seems plausible, given his comments – he clearly cared about Oklahoma City and Russell Westbrook and wanted to leave on the best possible terms. Not that they could really find a good replacement for KD but they have to at least try to have a shot of entering the playoffs again in the upcoming season.

He will turn 28 years old in September. I don’t think that’s comparable. “No. We live in this superhero, comic book world where you’re either the villain or superhero if you’re in this position, and I know that”.

Barkley headlines a long list of National Basketball Association greats who have never won a championships – players such as Elgin Baylor, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Patrick Ewing, Dominique Wilkins, George Gervin, Allen Iverson and Reggie Miller.
