Charleston Southern University will withhold 14 players from Saturday’s football game at Florida State.

While the rule is clear, saying that schools can give out money for books but the allotment is to be used specifically for book purchases, it’s a little too harsh and restrictive.

Some players sat out last Saturday’s win over Kentucky State. The Buccaneers are 37.5-point underdogs as an FCS program, but the hard task of taking on the Seminoles might now be impossible as multiple Charleston Southern players announced late Thursday that half the team has been suspended for the game. Other items can not be covered by that financial aid.

CSU first announced an internal review of the NCAA violations last week. He also stated that the kids will not be out long, and that the decision to suspend players and coaches was reached based on recommendations from paid consultants, the NCAA, and the Big South Conference.

The punishment gained attention Thursday night when a few Charleston Southern players posted on social media that they had been suspended for using book money improperly.

“It is unfortunate Charleston Southern University only cares about itself as an institution”, Cirone wrote on Facebook. “The protection of its student/athletes should be a number one priority”.

Charleston Southern will face Florida State on Saturday in Tallahassee, Florida.

One Buccaneer player who will suit up is starting middle linebacker Zane Cruz, a Yulee High graduate. The team faces a tough opponent this weekend against Florida State, and it would be almost impossible for them to compete with just half their roster against such a tough opponent. “We were efficient early in the game”, FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said. “The workers in the bookstore advised us to spend the money because we would not get it back, so we did”. Taking away some seniors’ shot to impress National Football League scouts and hurting our image as men who have done our best to change the entire image of a program that was nothing short of a joke when we first got here. This certainly isn’t a good thing for the team as they look to make an impact in the FCS this year.

Chadwell’s suspension was not related to the misuse of scholarship money, but because of the use of social media for recruiting.
