Charleston Southern players say 30-plus teammates suspended for FSU game

On the one hand, many players will never get another opportunity to play in an environment like the one that’ll unfold in Tallahassee on Saturday.

More players have confirmed that there will be players suspended when Charleston Southern takes on Florida State this Saturday.

Robinson took to Facebook to voice his displeasure over the situation. We would have left over book money and the workers in the bookstore advised us to spend the money because we would not get it back, so we did.

The NCAA rulebook is pretty clear regarding the use of money from schools that are supposed to be spent on books.

“What we are trying to prevent is winning games in a particular sport that may become forfeitures in the future because players who broke the rules participated in the games”, Small said in a statement last week.

“So basically about 30+ players on my team including me have been suspended for using book money to buy other things in the book store like pencils, binders and electronic”, running back Ben Robinson wrote on his Facebook page. They were also given the option before Thursday’s practice to either sit out this week against Florida State or next week against Monmouth. “I have a lot of family coming in town and a lot of friends are going to be there”.

As ESPN notes, it’s not the first time that Charleston Southern has dealt with an NCAA-related suspension this year. The protection of its students/athletes should be a number one priority.

Many FBS teams have started giving players cost-of-attendance money, which pays for school costs besides just tuition, books and lodging.

As for players picking the game they have to sit out, the obvious choice would be the Florida State game.

A week after Charleston Southern announced it would be “withholding several student-athletes from competition as a self-imposed action” during an internal review into possible NCAA rules violations, players from the football team voiced their displeasure with the decision and the university all over social media on Thursday night.

If CSU players are indeed being given the choice of which game they’ll miss, it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Charleston Southern could be decimated by double-digit suspensions for game at FSU
