Charlotte-area unemployment rate rises to 5.9 percent

Also, the number of initial claims for unemployment insurance rose by 1,984, or 14.4 percent, to 15,737 in June.

Metro Gainesville had the lowest area jobless rate at 5.3 percent, while Metro Albany had the highest at 8.2 percent.
