“Nobody wants to test the safety gear that they are wearing, but thankfully everything I had last night worked perfectly”, Bell posted Saturday on his Twitter account, adding that he “walked away with only bruises”.

“I was just trying to protect my spot and Joey was tough to keep behind me but this is just a great feeling to be in Victory Lane here at Daytona”.

Elliott took the lead from Logano on a final restart with 13 laps to go and then blocked his fellow Sprint Cup regular on the last lap.

“We can’t have this in-between because you’re just making this more unsafe the way we got it right now”, he said. “Lot of work to do here”.

Kyle Busch was stuck in a hospital bed, the Daytona 500 just a race on TV.

He can only hope to have as smooth a run.

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Joey Logano is a 4/1 favorite to win this year’s race while Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon have each been given 7/1 odds to win.

“I thought we were wrecked, which fortunately we didn’t”, said Elliott, who finished 0.043 of a second ahead, about half a vehicle length. It was his third second-place finish in three races during Speedweeks. He was also runner-up in the Sprint Unlimited and in the first Duel qualifying race Thursday.

“Hopefully tomorrow I can get in front of it by the start/finish line; that would be really cool”, Logano said. His new JR Motorsports teammate Elliott Sadler was able to hook bumpers with the No. 88 vehicle a lap later and continued to push Elliott as the laps wound down.
