Verdict: Brilliant performances, combined with a great storyline and fitting tributes to the old Rocky films make Creed a memorable watch.

Seeing much of Apollo in Adonis, Rocky agrees to mentor him and thus Adonis’s eye of the tiger is put to the test! Nevertheless, the “Rocky” franchise showed the world what it means to be a victor both in and out of the ring.

Along with Sicario, this has to be one of the most impressively shot movies of the year.

To celebrate the new film and hopefully more from the series to come, we chose to get in the film room and rank the best bouts from the Rocky movies. “‘Rocky II” specifically – that was his favorite movie. It doesn’t get any more basic than this bloody brawl. With Apollo’s spirit hovering over him (quite literally in one great scene where Donnie shadowboxes his dad), he fights underground in Tijuana, building an amateur record and doing what he loves-what his father loved. When Rocky gave his famous speeches the music would immediately hit, and it was just as good as Bill Conti’s renditions in the earlier Rocky films. Such out-of-place elements like the love story between Creed and neighbor girl Bianca (Tessa Thompson) are still around. “Creed” has plenty of the original Rocky color and feel.

In May 1982, Mr. T was a bonafide Hollywood attraction – not to mention, a true American bad ass in every sense of the phrase. When guided by Rocky, he finds much of what he’s needed in his life. Will Balboa take Creed Jr under his wing and train him for greatness?

On November 27, 1975, a “bum” of a Philadelphia boxer named Rocky Balboa defeated Spider Rico.

Rocky is back, again, only this time he isn’t the one boxing in the ring.

The Italian Stallion versus The Ultimate Male, Thunderlips – Sylvester Stallone and Hulk Hogan.

Now that your Hunger Games hangover has finally subsided it’s time to figure out what movies you should check out this holiday weekend. Who said pro wrestling is fake?

There’s a layer of meta in the film as well; Creed is unwilling to take on his father’s surname, and this film in unwilling to take Rocky’s name to promote itself – this is Creed’s film and will be recognized as such, rather than “just another Rocky sequel”. A rigorous training amid the cold winter snow in Russian Federation led to Rock knocking out Drago, who was juicing on steroids. He’s rescued by his stepmother, who married Creed when Adonis was very young so she has no obligation to him, but she takes him anyway and raises him like one of her own. But Rocky, despite a blow or two too many to the head, is no dummy when it comes to fighters. Ultimately, he loses to Apollo Creed in a thrilling 15 round match. Expressive, memorable and engaging, he delivers a sound performance that more than makes up for his last film (Fantastic Four). Rocky wins the title back.
