And the Brazil defender has now completed personal terms with Chelsea and passed a medical, putting pen to paper on an three-year contract.

In his return to Chelsea, Luiz will be joined by Marcos Alonso, a 25-year-old Spanish left back who also signed with the club on Wednesday.

Luiz was also a major player in Chelsea’s FA Cup triumph that year as well as their Europa League title the following season.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has welcomed the return of David Luiz to Stamford Bridge, while also admitting he is pleased Diego Costa chose to stay at the club. “I can’t wait to wear the shirt and play in Stamford Bridge again”.

In what is certain to be a contentious move, the Blues have agreed to bring David Luiz back into the fold for a reported £32 million, two years after letting him go to PSG. He can play left-back, right-back and as a holding midfielder.

A fan favorite at the Bridge, Luiz is set for an emotional return to the London club on deadline day Tuesday, having expressed his unsettlement in PSG.

David Luiz has re-signed for Chelsea in a transfer deal which has stunned the football world.

The 26-year-old Italian managed only four goals in 28 appearances for Liverpool and spent last season on loan at AC Milan.

Sources told ESPN FC earlier on Wednesday that Chelsea were confident of signing Luiz, 29, even though PSG were holding out for an offer of between £40 million and £45m for the defender. Of course I want to win the Premier League and of course I want to win all the titles again. “It’s a step up in my career”, Alonso said on Chelsea’s website.

“It was an easy decision for me to make when I heard the club were interested in signing me”.

“Namely Eric Bailly, a young man who is already a very good defender but in time will be an exceptional one”.
