Chelsea Clinton Set to Make Her Case for Her Mother

Chelsea Clinton on Thursday offered a deeply personal portrait of her mother, Hillary Clinton, recalling notes left for her during out-of-town trips and visits to dinosaur museums.

President Bill Clinton and first lady Hillary Clinton wave as they depart from Andrews Air Force Base with Chelsea on her way to starting her freshman year at Stanford University. She’s describing her mom as a diligent public servant who looks for solutions and dives into policy.

Without much of a pause, according to CBS News, Clinton said she would like to ask Ivanka Trump “that question: ‘How would your father do that?'”

“I hope that my children will someday be as proud of me as I am of my mom. She fought her heart out, and as all of you know, she lost”, Chelsea Clinton said.

My parents raised me to know how lucky I was that I never had to worry about food on the table, that I never had to worry about a good school to go to. But I think I have to pull daughter rank…

“As President, my father will change the labor laws that were put into place at a time when women were not a significant portion of the workforce”, Ivanka Trump said of her father. “And just the image of this little girl all by herself walking down the stairs of the walk-up tenement, out the door alone, to the corner, to the café, and getting food with coupons just haunts me”. For all her graciousness and accomplishments, she has always seems like a normal, approachable woman-the kind who needs a few months to get back into her jeans after having a baby and has not yet undergone some weird surgery to replace all her original skin with that rubbery tan plastic they make Barbies out of. Politico media critic Jack Shafer wrote earlier this year that it was “time for Chelsea Clinton’s easy ride to end” after she launched a “reckless” attack on Bernie Sanders over his health care plan.

After graduating from Stanford, Chelsea went to Oxford to get a master’s degree in worldwide relations. This is the core of what her grandmother encouraged her to do: “embrace her inheritance”. She’s a listener, a doer. “We were friends before this election, we’ll be friends after this election”. “Grandma would be so, so proud”, she said.

But her arguably biggest moment yet will come under the bright lights of the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday evening, where she is being called upon to introduce her mother at the Democratic National Convention.

Chelsea Clinton married her longtime boyfriend, investment banker Marc Mezvinsky, in a private ceremony on July 31, 2010.

Both daughters gave introductory speeches for their parents when they accepted their party’s nomination. Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, is a leading surrogate for her father and gave an emotional speech for him last week, pledging that the two will work on issues like pay equity and affordable childcare.
