Chelsea Clinton Vows: ‘My Mother Will Make Us Proud’

That contrasted with last week’s Republican convention in Cleveland, where many party notables showed their concern about Trump’s rhetoric and policies by staying away.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, who is among those who blazed the trail for Clinton as the first female House speaker, called the moment “transformational” in an interview ahead of the speech. Trump, he said, calls the United States “a divided crime scene” and hopes to win votes by scaring people over immigration and crime.

In the hours leading up to Clinton’s appearance, the crowd at the Wells Fargo Center included supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders, who challenged Clinton in Democratic primaries this year.

“We realized after the primary that we understand Bernie Sanders did very well with the millennial voters in the primary”, Hinojosa said. “Donald Trump says he wants to make America great again- well, he could start by actually making things in America again”, she said of Trump’s offshore manufacturers. (The one between Clinton and Trump is now close.) “A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man you can trust with nuclear weapons”, she said, homing in on the extraordinary danger Trump represents.

WASHINGTON, July 27 (Xinhua) – Despite much recent controversy surrounding U.S. Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, she has one secret weapon: her husband, former President Bill Clinton.

Clinton’s speech came on the final night of a convention that had heard from many impressive speakers over the course of the week.

“We are going to grow our majority because New Yorkers support what we stand for and what we have done”, Senate GOP spokesman Scott Reif said in a statement Wednesday.

She will be preceded on the stage by her daughter, Chelsea.

Hillary Clinton capped off a four-day convention celebration with a plea for national unity and tolerance.

“I believe that our economy isn’t working the way it should because our democracy isn’t working the way it should”, said the Democratic presidential nominee whose close ties to Wall Street had been scrutinized during the year-long campaign.

“He wants to divide us from the rest of the world and from each other”. That is the country she is fighting for, she said.

Throughout the convention, Democrats tried to convey the stakes of the election not only to Sanders backers but to Republicans concerned about Trump’s bombastic tone and foreign policy positions. On Thursday, Clinton’s goal was to paint a more hopeful, optimistic vision of a nation that comes together and is, as her campaign slogan puts it, “stronger together”.

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), the party’s vice presidential nominee, sought to appeal to both Republican voters and Sanders supporters who view him as too moderate.

“I get it that some people just don’t know what to make of me so let me tell you”, she said. “Yeah”, said Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta. Democrats’ messaging left many Republicans feeling as though their party had wasted an opportunity during their party’s convention to deliver an uplifting message to voters. Fireworks exploded inside the arena and red, white and blue balloons plunged from the arena rafters.

Doubts about Trump were also on display in some of Thursday evenings most theatrical moments.
