Ahead of the double signing of Alonso and Luiz, Chelsea had faced a lot of frustration in their chase for a new defender and the Premier League giants were believed to have failed with multiple bids for top target Kalidou Koulibaly.

The deadline day arrivals followed N’Golo Kanté, Michy Batshuayi and Eduardo Carvalho in joining Conte’s Chelsea revolution.

Luiz had first joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2011 and the Brazil global won the FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League during his initial spell at Stamford Bridge.

After initial failing to acquire Luiz from the French club, due to Paris Saint-Germain not wanting to let their prized defender go, multiple representatives from Luiz’s camp and Luiz himself aggressively lobbied for the opportunity to once again play for Chelsea. Additionally, in 2015, he scored against his former club, knocking Chelsea out in the Champions League round of 16.

“I don’t want to buy just to buy, I want to buy the right player for Chelsea, for the present, for the future, with a good prospect”.

David Luiz enjoyed arguably the most successful period of his career with Chelsea, winning 2 European competitions and the FA Cup during his time with the Blues, going on to become a cult hero at Stamford Bridge in the process.

In other moves, Spanish World Cup victor Alvaro Arbaloa, who played last season at Real Madrid, joined West Ham on a one-year deal, and Netherlands defender Bruno Martins Indi moved from Porto to Stoke on a season-long loan.

He had three years left on the five-year contract he signed in September 2012 when he joined Ligue 1 club.

He helped Juventus to a league and cup double last season while making 40 appearances and was welcomed back by the Bianconeri.

The Blues have resigned the 29-year-old from Paris St-Germain for a fee of around £34million.

He played for Bolton 46 times from 2010 to 2013 before moving to Fiorentina and had a four-month loan spell at Sunderland in 2014.
