Chelsea confirm David Luiz deal from PSG for £38m

Chelsea have re-signed Brazil’s worldwide defender David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain on a three-year contract, the Premier League club announced on Wednesday.

In 2014, the Brazilian global departed Stamford Bridge for PSG in a £50 million deal that made him the most expensive defender of all-time.

“I’m very happy to be here again”, Luiz told the club’s official website.

Luiz left Stamford Bridge back in 2014 to join Paris Saint-Germain for £50million and the defender enjoyed a hugely successful time in France, picking up nine trophies along the way.

Luiz said: “I’m delighted to return to Chelsea. I can’t wait to wear the shirt and play in Stamford Bridge again”.

He made 143 appearances, scoring 12 goals, before his record-breaking switch to PSG.

The arrival of Luiz took the number of Chelsea signings this summer to five; he joins Michy Batshuayi, N’Golo Kante, Eduardo and fellow deadline-day acquisition Marcos Alonso at Stamford Bridge.

The 28-year-old Slimani is linking up with fellow Algerian Riyad Mahrez, who helped Leicester produce one of the biggest sporting shocks last season by winning the Premier League. After failing to acquire both Italian League players, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte sought the Brazilian Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain.

French journalist Julien Laurens believes David Luiz has returned to Chelsea a worse player than when he departed two years ago. I love this club, so that’s why I am here. “PSG couldn’t beleve their luck and I think first of all they tried to keep him because they had no other options and then they thought “the money’s too good, we can’t turn that down, it’s impossible”.

4 – Juan Cuadrado will have spent four straight seasons on loan from Chelsea to Juventus if he sees out the three-year loan deal signed on Wednesday. “Is he now going to play a back three?”

“I’m very happy. It’s a step up in my career and I think this is the flawless place for me to continue developing”.
