The reports linking the 29-year-old defender with a move back to Chelsea started yesterday, as Antonio Conte had to act and make the most out of the final moments of this summer’s transfer window.

Now, after two successful seasons with the all-conquering Ligue 1 side, Chelsea have rekindled their love affair with the big-haired Brazilian.

Analysts predict European spending will easily be the highest yet when the two-month transfer window closes, between 1600 GMT for the Bundesliga and 2200 GMT for the Premier League.

Chelsea confirmed earlier on Wednesday that they had agreed a deal with PSG to bring Luiz back to Stamford Bridge.

Expect an official unveiling before the morning.

City’s England goalkeeper Joe Hart moved to Torino, French midfielder Samir Nasri joined Sevilla, Ivorian striker Wilfried Bony left for Stoke City and French defender Eliaquim Mangala departed to Valencia.

At Eastlands, a host of players were saying their goodbyes, for the moment at least, as City boss Pep Guardiola wielded the axe.

He joined City from Porto for about 32 million pounds ($42.01 million) in August 2014 but has struggled to establish himself after making 48 Premier League appearances under the club’s former manager Manuel Pellegrini.

He signed a five-year contract and is thought to have cost Spurs around pound sterling30 million.

Promoted Burnley broke their record for the second time in this window when they signed the Ireland worldwide Jeff Hendrick from Derby County for a reported fee of 10.5 million pounds.

Another England global, midfielder Wilshere, moved on loan to Bournemouth from Arsenal as he looks to get his career back on track after being plagued by injuries in recent seasons.
