Chelsea falter again with 2-2 home draw against West Brom

Interim Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink insists that his side have not given up hope of finishing in the top four of the Premier League this season.

Azpilicueta is less than prolific, but likes scoring against West Brom.

“We have said before as long as it is mathematically possible to get the fourth position and Champions League then we go for it. But then we have to win all those games at home”, he said.

Guus Hiddink has praised Diego Costa’s “emotional personality” despite the Chelsea striker getting involved in several tussles during the club’s entertaining 2-2 draw with West Brom on Wednesday night.

Pulis added sacking Mourinho was utterly disrespectful to the Portuguese coach and the players who won the title past year. “Meanwhile, when it’s not happening, maybe step by step also young players get every now and then the chance to participate in the first squad”, Hiddink said. However, if Boaz Myhill, who has deputised for the last 10 months, is dropped for West Brom’s next Premier League game, away to Chelsea, it will be a huge injustice.

They needed an own goal by Gareth McAuley, who directed a Willian cross into his own net in the 74th minute, to put them back in front.

It was arguably the best performance by Costa in what has been a poor season by his standards, as he showed impeccable hold-up play throughout and dominated a Palace defence which has shut their fair share of teams out of late.

A fine team move saw Costa and Willian combine to set up Branislav Ivanovic, whose low cross from the right was tapped home by Azpilicueta at the far post.

Costa had no complaints when he was booked for a poor lunge on Gardner after losing control of the ball.

But they couldn’t hold on to their lead and James McLean earned the Baggies a point with a right-foot shot from the edge of the box on 86 minutes. I thought I’d take that one to my grave.

They however got a deserved equaliser five minutes from time through McLean. The Chelsea pressure began to build after that, but the Baggies were still very much in the game and a better ball from Saido Berahino on the break might have created an opportunity to take the lead.

“Now we need another 13 points to get to 40”, he said.

West Bromwich Albion is twelfth in the league with 26 points having won 7 games, drawn 5 and lost 8.
