Chelsea have quality to climb back up under Hiddink: Courtois
Interim Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink asks players to look hard in the mirror.

Hiddink, 69, replaced Jose Mourinho following the firing of the Portuguese boss last week – nine defeats in your opening 16 games of a season will do that to you – and although he was installed ahead of Chelsea’s 3-1 win against Sunderland on Saturday, his first game in charge will be against Watford on Boxing Day (Watch live, 10 a.m. ET on United States of America and online via Live Extra).
Their appalling title defence led to Mourinho’s departure and Hiddink, who led Chelsea to FA Cup success during an interim spell in 2009, believes the players should be analysing where it has gone wrong.
Defender Terry said: “If it was the case where you could get rid of a lot of players, I’m sure clubs would do that, but unfortunately it does fall on the manager’s head”.
A hugely unpopular decision with the overwhelming majority of Chelsea supporters, these Blues fans are exclusively blaming the players for the club’s quite bad Premier League campaign so far.
Caretaker manager Steve Holland merely said it been “a sad few days”, as he revealed that Hiddink had introduced himself to some of the squad in the dressing room after the win over Sunderland.
“This guy has worked for 30 years in football and delivered an unavailable quality of work and I think it’s a bit disrespectful what is going on there”.
“If you look at his record over the years, it’s an incredible record that he’s done in various clubs”, Hiddink said.
His failure to steer the Netherlands into the European Championships is particularly damning, but it is worth remembering that not that long ago Claudio Ranieri was losing against the Faroe Islands with Greece and is now top of the Premier League with Leicester.
“But we definitely intend to get him involved”.
“I don’t want to be “informed” that much, I will make my own judgements”.
And while Terry loved to see a similar face back at Stamford Bridge he isn’t expecting to be joined by Drogba on the training ground anytime soon. I told them as professionals to look in the mirror and be ultra-critical.
“No manager can guarantee three points every week, but we have to show to ourselves, the club, the players, the fans inside Chelsea and overseas, that the team have big desire to wash away the last half year and go up to the next coming games”.

“I could not finish that job and it was disappointing for me”, he said.
