Chelsea icon Frank Lampard’s New York City debut delayed
Frank Lampard won’t be making his much-anticipated New York City debut on Sunday after all, sidelined by a midweek injury.

Frank Lampard is yet to don the colours of New York City FC on the pitch and will have to wait another week to play owing to a calf strain.
The next game for New York is next Saturday against New England Revolution but that is away from home and manager Jason Kreis may decide to wait until the team are next at the Yankee Stadium.
After facing bench time in the latter half of his City stay, Lampard was rumored to leave Manchester early for NYCFC – another scenario that did not pan out.
It goes to show how MLS is growing and it will be interesting to see just how big it can become in the years to come.
“I’m hugely disappointed to be missing out on Sunday’s game, which I have been really looking forward to”, revealed Lampard. “Unfortunately I sustained a small strain to my calf during a session”, Lampard told his club’s official website.
He looked certain to make his debut against Toronto on Sunday but he sustained a calf injury during training and will not be up for selection.
As I say, its personally very disappointing for me but these things happen in football.
NYCFC (5-8-5) has picked up the pace recently climbing up to seventh in the Eastern Conference standings.

Lampard is one of three of New York City’s major close-season signings alongside the arrivals of World Cup winners in Spaniard David Villa and Italy’s Andrea Pirlo.
