As such in both of Chelsea’s first two games of the 2016-2017 English Premier League season, Costa has been both an inspirational and controversial figure.

Defender Craig Cathcart believes fitness levels could have played a part as Chelsea’s late rally led to Watford’s 2-1 defeat at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

Watford will be disappointed to have ended the game with nothing to show for their own display having matched Chelsea in a boring first half and taken the lead through a fantastic Capoue strike.

It appeared that the game was going to end on level terms but with three minutes remaining, substitute Cesc Fabregas sent a ball over the top for Costa and the Spanish global did the rest as he fired past Gomes for his second winning goal in the space of five days.

And he also thinks that the side done enough to get a point out of the game too, but their unbeaten start to the season came to an abrupt end.

“I am sure Aina has a good future, but with the numbers, five defenders, if there is an injury or a ban we are in trouble. We want to win for the fans too”, Hazard told Chelsea TV. I think we showed a great intensity in the second half and we pushed them a lot.

“It’s always hard to come back but we did great”, the Belgium global told Chelsea’s official website. That’s why now we are winning.

In contrast to Chelsea – once the go-to example for Premier League excess in the transfer market – Manchester City and Manchester United have both spent over £100m already this summer while Liverpool have also spent more.

“We all know Cesc’s quality, he’s a great player but it’s important to understand that we are at the beginning of the season and I am looking for the right balance”. “We complicated our life”, he said.

“I didn’t want to celebrate because we were 1-1, not 1-2”.
