Chelsea look to £21m Ricardo Rodriguez, to strengthen defence

Chelsea is planning a 22 million pound ($29M) move for Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez, according to the Daily Mirror. “But we can live with this decision”, he told Blick of Rodriguez, who could challenge Azpilicueta’s status as Chelsea’s first-choice left-back.

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte when asked about future signings, he said, “We have a plan”.

The Switzerland global was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal earlier in the summer but a move to the Emirates never materialised. We know this transfer market is very insane. The 23-year-old has a contract with Wolfsburg till 2019 and has received interest from Arsenal, Roma, and Real Madrid but only Chelsea seem to meet the high valuation, the Germans have set for the Switzerland worldwide.

“We have too few players in defence and we are working with the club to find a solution. They show great commitment every day”.

With Conte keen to impose his favoured wing back formation on the Blues this season, he needs full backs who are capable of playing a high-tempo game and the Italian has identified Rodriguez as a flawless fit.

As it stands, Cesar Azpilicueta is the only experienced left back the Premier League club have following the recent departure of Baba Rahman to Bundesliga side Schalke.
