Chelsea manager Mourinho fined, given suspended stadium ban

Chelsea have been criticised for being too defensive-minded by Southampton boss Ronald Koeman, who thinks Jose Mourinho should teach “fantastic football” like Arsene Wenger has Arsenal playing.

“It was alleged his remarks constituted improper conduct in that they alleged and/or implied bias on the part of a match official or match officials and/or brought the game into disrepute”.

The suspended stadium ban will come into effect if Mourinho commits a further breach of rules before October 13 next year.

Mourinho had claimed officials were “afraid” to award his team penalties after Robert Madley denied Chelsea a spot-kick in a 3-1 loss to Southampton.

“With the score at 1-1 (there was) a huge penalty and once more we don’t get it”, the Portuguese said.

Koeman believes Chelsea’s tactical approach of retreating after taking the lead rather than going for the opposition’s jugular doesn’t work in their favour, and hit out at Mourinho for relentlessly moaning about officiating.

Mourinho had feared the worst after making his comments, saying, “If the Football Association wants to punish me they can – they don’t punish other managers”.

His side return to Premier League action at home to Aston Villa – four points and two places below them – on Saturday.

Full-back Branislav Ivanovic suffered a hamstring injury while on worldwide duty with Serbia, so is not expected to feature.

Their relationship has been strained since and the pair clashed on the touchline at Stamford Bridge last season when a couple of rough challenges on Alexis Sanchez went unpunished. “I have been working on what I needed to work on and I am happy about that”.
