According to The Guardian, the 33-year-old will sign a short-term contract with Chelsea, having most recently been on the books at Serie B side Perugia.
Telegraph claim that Jose Mourinho is unwilling to wait until January for a keeper and wants to sign Amelia right now. This is in a bid the secure the services of the experienced goalkeeper.
The Chelsea chief said: “We need a goalkeeper now, not in January. Maybe he can give us that”.
As per various reports emanating from the Italian and British media, the Premier League defending Champions have been evaluating Marco Amelia through trial.
“We were analysing and with what we had in our hands we decided Marco could be a good option for us”.
Amelia has represented his country in the past and played for the prestigious Milan club.
Chelsea’s Belgian No 1 Thibaut Courtois has been ruled out until at least December after suffering a serious knee injury.
“Courtois is recovering well, working well, but obviously he can not fight the time”.
