Chelsea pair omitted from Nigeria squad

“Taiwo Adelu Interim coach of Tanzania’s senior national team, Charles Boniface Mkwassa, has declared that though his Taifa Stars are underdogs, they are battle ready to shock highly rated Nigeria’s Super Eagles when both team meet in the 5 September Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match scheduled for Dar es Salaam”.

He said that players like Emmanuel Emenike who has won laurel for the country deserves all the respect they could get to bring out the best in them.

Oliseh, who has taken over from Stephen Keshi, left out the Chelsea pair of John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses to underline a promise that he would select only players who were showing form at club level and getting regular game time. He was in the squad for Nigeria’s first 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and scored in a 2-0 win over Chad in June. I could remember one of the players then, Muda Lawal. Mkwassa has since named five foreign based players in his 29- man squad ahead of the tie against Eagles.

“I am expecting to work with my fellow countrymen and I am impressed with the tactical display of some of the players“.

“It doesn’t matter whether you’re home or overseas, I believe we can solve the problem in those positions”.
