Chelsea are considering a surprise move for Fiorentina fullback Marcos Alonso.

Chelsea are short on numbers in the left-back position with right-footed Cesar Azpilicueta the only senior option and hope to land one before the window closes on Wednesday.
And the Italian wants to bring Alonso back to England to bolster his full-back cover.
The 25-year-old has previous English football experience, having played for both Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland in the past. The pursuit of Koulibaly and/or Romagnoli continues, with reported interest in Torino’s Nikola Maksimovic and Stefan De Vrij of Lazio seen as contingency plans. Sources in Italy also claim Chelsea have made an inquiry over Inter Milan’s Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.
Conte said in a press conference yesterday that he was increasingly pessimistic about landing his first choice defensive targets – which will do wonders for the confidence of whoever they do buy – with just four days of the transfer window remaining.

Manchester City and United have comfortably outspent Chelsea this summer, while Arsenal are also poised to take their outlay past them, but Conte insisted the club could still compete financially. “I think we’ll have a problem to reach our targets. But that’s fine. Work is the bread and butter”.
