Chelsea stun Manchester United with swoop for Pedro

Pedro was part of the fabled La Masia stable which included the likes of Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas et al and has scored 99 goals in 326 appearances since his debut in 2008.

The Spain forward would add to Jose Mourinho’s attacking options and his potential arrival could lead to a move away from Stamford Bridge for Juan Cuadrado.

One thing is for sure, whoever does end up signing Pedro will be getting an excellent player and I think any deal around £25m will prove to be a great deal in today’s over-inflated market.

But they beat Sevilla 5-4 after extra time to clinch the UEFA Super Cup on August 11.

At present, a United representative is in Spain trying to finalize the deal to sign Pedro.

Reports suggest that Pedro is close to a move to Manchester United, but Enrique is just willing the transfer window to shut so he knows who he can count on this season.

United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward flew out to Barcelona on Monday in an attempt to conclude the deal ahead of Saturday’s lunchtime home game with Newcastle.

The Chelsea boss’ personal intervention, coupled with his family’s interest in living in London, convinced Pedro to ditch Manchester United’s interest in favour of the Blues.

Manchester United will be hoping that Pedro doesn’t turn out a flop, as Di Maria did.

Chelsea’s slow start to the new campaign has reportedly changed Mourinho’s mind, however, and the Portuguese tactician is now keen to improve his squad.

However, according to other reports, the Spaniard would only join Manchester United if he were to leave Barcelona.

The longer they prevaricate over the finer points of a fee that must match the £22m buy-out clause in Pedro’s contract, however, the more the door remains open for one of their rivals.
