Chelsea Targeted David Luiz’ PSG Teammate Before Moving on Summer Signing
Chelsea have brought David Luiz back to Stamford Bridge from Paris Saint-Germain after agreeing personal terms with the defender.

Luiz, 29, became the world’s most expensive defender in 2014 when Chelsea sold him to PSG for around 50 million pounds ($65 million, 58 million euros).
“Chelsea Football Club and Paris Saint-Germain have agreed terms for the transfer of David Luiz back to London”, a statement on Chelsea’s website read, similar to PSG’s own statement. “I can’t wait to wear the shirt and play in Stamford Bridge again”.
PSG had previously turned down approaches from Chelsea for both Luiz and his Brazilian team-mate Marquinhos, telling them that neither defender was for sale. It is fantastic to have a second opportunity to play for this club, I love this club, that’s why I’m here.
Luiz said: “I’m delighted to return to Chelsea.
PSG couldn’t beleve their luck and I think first of all they tried to keep him because they had no other options and then they thought “the money’s too good, we can’t turn that down, it’s impossible”.
The 24-year-old has been limited to just 66 league matches over the last five seasons and has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal.
His previous stint at Chelsea saw him make 81 appearances, playing a key role in the club’s 2012 Champions League triumph.
Luiz was an FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League victor with Chelsea during his first spell at the club before being sold to PSG for £50million in 2014.
Cuadrado earlier rejoined Juventus on a loan deal which effectively brought his Chelsea career to an end.
“I’m very happy. It’s a step up in my career and I think this is the flawless place for me to continue developing”. This is a new adventure for me and to play in the Premier League is a dream come true.

While the signing of Luiz will no doubt be at the forefront of fans’ thoughts, the news that Diego Costa is staying at Stamford Bridge is also a massive boost for the club.
