Cheney (no, not that one) wins Republican US House primary in Wyoming
She’ll face Democrat Ryan Greene in the general election.

Rep. Cynthia Lummis isn’t seeking a fifth term after serving four terms, leaving Wyoming’s lone seat in the U.S. House up for grabs. But her campaign coffers are lined with checks from big-name establishment Republicans who served in the two Bush administrations.
“I will be that leader”, Cheney said Tuesday night. “We’re very focused now on moving to the general election”.
With 82 percent of the precincts reporting at press time Tuesday, Cheney had received 40 percent of the vote in the most competitive USA primary contest in Wyoming in over 100 years.
Greene says Wyoming’s next congressman will need to be realistic and willing to work with both Democrats and Republicans.
“We have to have somebody be able to hit the ground running on day one”, she said.
Cheney was by far the best-funded candidate and brought in more than $1.5 million through July. Mike Enzi, the state’s senior Republican.
This year Cheney, who spent about three years of her childhood in Casper, is back to bid for federal office.
With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Cheney had 34,086 votes, or nearly 40 percent of the vote, according to the AP. Leland Christensen and state Rep. Tim Stubson.
All other GOP candidates had less than 2 percent of the vote.
This campaign marks Cheney’s second attempt at a political career. Both Cheney and Smith said, for instance, that Planned Parenthood trafficked in human body parts, based on a video created by an anti-abortion rights group that has widely been dismissed as creatively edited.
Cheney, speaking from Wilson, where she watched election results with her family, said she was honored and grateful to win.
“While the outcome is not what we hoped for, I am immensely grateful for every single person who cast their ballot for me, volunteered, placed a yard sign in their front yard, and offered their guidance and prayers”, he said in the statement. But her high name recognition and her superior fundraising easily put her over the edge in this primary.
“I really think that the voters of Wyoming have always been focused on substance and policy, and I’m really proud of the campaign we ran”, Cheney said. Greene, who works for his family’s oil-services company, was bullish about his chances after winning his primary Tuesday night.
Stubson said it was hard to compete with a smaller budget. As Wyoming continues to bear the brunt of a heavy-handed federal government, it is important we send a Republican to Washington.
Greene’s opponent Hardy lost to incumbent Republican Sen.
“We had fantastic volunteers”, he said.
