Here are the visuals of Journalist Gauri Lankesh Murder.
Police said Lankesh had returned to her residence from office and was heading towards the door to her residence after parking her auto when the assailants fired at her.
Additionally, a special team, appointed to solve the case, is looking through CCTV footages to identify the killers.
Lankesh was unlocking her door in West Bengaluru at about 8 p.m. when unidentified men shot her at close range, hitting her with three bullets, NDTV reported.
In November 2016, she was found guilty of defamation in a case involving BJP MP Prahlad Joshi, and had been sentenced to six months in jail.
Journalists seen to be critical of Hindu nationalists are often insulted on social media, and some women reporters have been threatened with assault.
Ananth Kumar, a federal minister in the Modi government, said the state government must arrest those behind the killing.
Farhan Akhtar: Shameful. What kind of society are we becoming?
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also took to Twitter expressing shock and said “Shocked to hear of the assassination of @gaurilankesh”.
Lankesh, Kalburgi, Dabholkar and Pansare – all were known critics of the right wing forces. My condolences & love to her family. Again last week two men followed her from office to her home.
