Chevrolet Android Auto update announced, will be available in March

But the 2016 Chevrolet models with the 8-inch MyLink system have until March of next year to be able to receive the update.

According to the company, this update will be available come March 2016 and will be exclusive to Chevrolet dealers.

If you’re wondering if your phone will be compatible with your vehicle, Android Auto requires Lollipop 5.0 operating system or higher, while Apple CarPlay requires an iPhone 5 or later.

Alan Batey, President GM North America and Global Chevrolet explained how this was achieved. The dealers are working hard to ensure that the updates are done smoothly and quickly so that they get the vehicle ready for the consumer to buy before they think of additional purchases. He stated that all this has been achieved due to the hard work of Chevrolet’s engineering team.

Hyundai was the first to announce plans to offer Android Auto, starting with the 2015 Sonata.

The official list includes the seven-inch MyLink infotainment system on the Spark; the seven- or eight-inch radios on the Cruze, Malibu, Camaro, and Silverado; and the eight-inch systems available for the Impala, Volt, Corvette, Colorado, Tahoe and Suburban.

You can even easily switch from an Android phone to the Apple iPhone. Simply plug either model of the phone into the car’s USB port and either CarPlay or Android Auto will automatically launch.
